Boart Longyear Global Commercial Director TruScan in Salt Lake City, Utah

Job Description:

Boart Longyear’s Geological Data Services Division is growing and needs to hire a new Global Commercial Director for Tuscan. TruScan is a sample scanning platform technology that is transforming the way logging and assay are done in the mineral exploration industry and is a key piece of our goal to provide unified orebody knowledge to our clients. This new position will report to the VP of Geological Drilling Services (GDS).

Your primary role is to influence the mining industry to transform their traditional practices and workflows associated with logging and assay to utilizing and relying on Boart Longyear’s TruScan sample scanning technology. You will direct all client communication tied to all TruScan business development and active projects. You will manage all TruScan regional managers in this space. The TruScan regional managers are 10+ year experienced geologists from the mining industry.

As a core requirement you will have the ability to influence the mining industry to transition towards disruptive technologies. You will also set the commercial strategy for the TruScan business and grow the TruScan technology to its full potential.

Networking and communicating with mining companies, you will leverage client relationships and the TruScan technology to transform the mining industry. You will be responsible for TruScan revenues and will own the customer relationship for the TruScan technology.

Managing and working in a global environment, you drive our regional TruScan managers on commercial matters, client relations, and business development. You will work closely with the Global Operations Director to deliver a quality TruScan experience for our mining clients.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in geology, earth sciences, and/or mining engineering. Masters and/or PhD a plus.

  • A minimum of 5+ years of experience in the mining industry with strong relationships with mining companies

  • MBA or advanced degree a plus

  • A strong technical understanding of mineral exploration and mining

  • Formal commercial experience a plus

Position Responsibilities:

  • Selling transformation incudes influencing a transition of the mining industry to utilizing digital technology to decrease error, reduce onsite exposure, and improve data quality to enhance probability for ore discovering. This includes converting the mining industry to utilize TruScan for accurate results in real time at high data density for less cost. This will allow our clients to streamline onsite workflows, make real time decisions on drill targeting, reduce sample error, and reduce assay costs.

  • TruScan business development including identify, pursue, and infiltrate different stages of the mineral exploration and mining process with the TruScan technology. Control all client communication tied to the TruScan technology both on the business development and active project side of the business. Need to technically sell TruScan to the geoscientists in the mining industry.

  • TruScan commercial matters including pricing, proposals, and general commercial strategies around the TruScan platform.

  • Lead the TruScan Regional Managers and influence them to strategically grow the TruScan technology on a global scale. Responsible for all revenue generation associated with the TruScan technology.

  • Represent the voice of customer when working closely with our TruScan product manager and R&D manager. Work closely with marketing and product management to market the TruScan technology. Working closely with operations on delivering as promised with our clients.

Key skill requirement:

  • Background in the geosciences with significant mining company experience.

  • Should be well respected in the industry and hold the ability to influence the industry to change.

  • Needs to be able to understand technical aspects of TruScan in detail and communicate them simply to our clients.

  • Strong relationships with senior staff at major mining companies is a must.

  • Experience in business development and commercial strategy are ideal.

  • Needs to have the willingness to network with our clients and enroll them through technical selling to utilize TruScan as part of their mining workflows.

  • An experienced leader that can manage and guide Regional TruScan Managers.
