Boart Longyear Field Mechanic - Hoyle Pond in Haileybury, Ontario

Job Description:

Position Responsibilities

Repair, troubleshoot, adjust, overhaul and maintain drilling equipment and mobile support equipment used within the scope of Boart Longyear Drilling operations.

Main duties

Mechanics perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Check for proper performance and inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions

  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine extent of repair required

  • Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components or systems, using hand and power tools

  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets regulatory specifications

  • Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment

  • Perform repair work on all Boart Longyear Drilling equipment.

  • May service specialty attachments or components and maintain, adjust and repair such items.

  • Ensure standards for safe working conditions are observed

  • Establish methods to meet work schedules and co-ordinate work activities with other departments.

  • Requisition parts, materials and supplies

  • Resolve work problems and recommend work measures to improve productivity

Employment requirements

  • Candidates need to be local to the Timmin's, ON area.

  • The mechanic will work in an underground environment at Hoyle Pond.

  • The mechanic will work a minimum of 40 hours a week, Monday to Thursday, with possibility of overtime on Friday and on weekends.

  • The mechanic will be supporting the Production Drilling Services (PDS) division of Boart Longyear.

  • Experience on air buggies, Stopemasters and mobile equipment is an asset.

  • Trade Certification (Red Seal) in mobile or millwright

  • Underground Common Core Certification Required

  • Completion of secondary school is usually required.

  • Completion of three- to five-year apprenticeship program

  • This position requires the successful candidate to have a valid driver's license. The successful candidate would have to provide proof that s/he has a valid driver’s license upon being hired, by submitting a driver’s abstract to Human Resources

  • Standard First Aid

  • Basic Safety Orientation, an asset

  • Must be willing to travel

Education and Experience:

Typically requires a High School diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 3+ years of directly related experience.
